Competitions: Terms of Participation

The University of Zurich carries out photo and video competitions on Instagram. By entering these competitions, users agree to the terms and conditions set out below. 

General terms of participation

Participants can enter the competitions free of charge. All natural persons who have a public Instagram account that follows the account are eligible to take part in the competitions. Members of UZH's Communications department are excluded from participation. Each Instagram user may submit up to two images or videos for each competition.


Participants in the competitions post an image or video in their feed on Instagram with a hashtag that has been defined for the specific competition. The hashtag for each competition will be announced on the Instagram account of UZH (


Only the prizes described in the competition will be awarded. Prizes may not be substituted, exchanged or redeemed for cash. Prizes will be awarded only among those participants who meet all the conditions set out for participation in the competition. The closing date for entries is the date indicated.

The prize can either be collected in person from the UZH Communications Office or sent to the winner by post to an address in Switzerland.

Selection and notification of winners

The winners are determined by a jury and personally notified by means of direct message on Instagram. 

Right to cancel or modify the competition

UZH reserves the right to modify, suspend or cancel the competition without warning or explanation should it become impossible to conduct the contest properly due to force majeure, technical or legal reasons.


UZH may exclude any images that it deems inappropriate from the competition without justification. In particular, all photos and videos must adhere to UZH’s rules of netiquette.


Data protection and image rights

UZH undertakes to exercise the necessary care in handling your personal data at all times and to comply with Swiss data protection provisions.

The participants are responsible for compliance with copyright and privacy laws. This applies in particular to the rights of the people portrayed in the pictures.

Use of images

UZH has the right to publish images and videos submitted by the competition participants on its social media channels, in particular to announce the winners. UZH will always name the author of the images or videos upon publication.

Liability limitations

To the extent permitted by law, UZH excludes all liability in connection with its competitions and is not liable for any damages incurred by third parties.

Legal recourse

The jury’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Competitions on social media

These competitions are carried out by UZH and have no connection to Facebook or Instagram, nor are they sponsored, endorsed or organized by Instagram in any way.
