Research Interests

  • planet formation and evolution: How do planets form? Is there only one mechanism for giant planet formation? What physical mechanisms dominate the evolution of planets?
  • planetary interiors: What are planets made of? How does the planetary composition change with depth?  Do gas giant planets have cores? How can we link planetary composition with planet formation and evolution?
  • solar system exploration: How can space mission teach us about the characteristics of the planets in the solar system? What are the measurements that are required? What is the ideal way to link theory and observations in planetary science?
  • extra-solar planets:  Is the solar system unique? What are the compositions of extra-solar planets? How different are the conditions for planet formation around other stars? What is the connection between the planet's composition and its birth environment?
