Galaxy formation with resolved ISM

I will present recent progress on modelling the galactic interstellar medium
with high resolution numerical simulations resolving the impact of supernovae
and the formation of the cold ISM phase in low mass galaxies and galactic
nuclei. Also discussed are advantages and limitations of sub-grid models in
cosmological simulations.
